We don’t only focus on scale-up businesses and large corporations. We also work with a range of entrepreneurs, individuals and business owners looking to take their first steps into product development.
Here we talk to Rebecca Johnson, qualified McTimoney Chiropractor and owner of Wellcome Back Chiropratic Clinic, who, after years of frustration of not finding the right product on the market to help with her patients’ ongoing problems, set about designing the solution herself.
Why did you choose Mark and May for your product idea development and product design work?
Having tried several other inventor progression companies I was feeling deflated. The first was only interested in patents; the second didn’t get the idea at all; and the third, although local, didn’t have the expertise I was looking for. I wanted to find a local business who had the credentials to sanity check my idea at the concept development stage and have the engineering knowledge to be able to design it for manufacture.
I found Mark and May online, and with their impressive product development experience and approach to product design as part of a wider commercial strategy, felt they could help me through each stage of bringing a product to market. And they certainly have!
What was the product idea development process that you went through with Mark and May?
Not knowing anything about product marketing or the science behind it, I was sceptical I needed an in-depth analysis on the marketplace but Laura’s commitment to the whole industry and research was impressive and really useful. Looking at our target market; conducting competitor analysis and taking into consideration other influencing, environmental factors which affect the launch of a product, laid the foundations for what we were trying to achieve and gave me confidence of my product positioning and unique proposition within the competitive landscape.
My initial idea was based on my basic knowledge of engineering but I didn’t know whether it could actually do what I wanted. When Mark got his teeth into the design ideas following an innovation workshop, I was blown away with the variety of ideas he came up with. Whilst I could see the possibility and development of mine, the other ideas were very interesting and still fulfilled the design brief.
How did you develop your product design idea whilst working?
Both Laura and Mark have been sensitive to my budget and time all the way through, which has made the journey a pleasure. They are authentic and I trust them completely with my idea and its progression.
I am so glad I found them I just don’t think I would ever have got this far with any other company.
